I don’t want to dent this toy drum I’ve been banging on, but there’s really very little time for reading when you have a baby. I’ve had to be selective (I picked up Murakami’s new one, looked at a few pages and thought, No, thank you, no, I won’t.) Still, I did manage to get some done this year, thanks to a combination of moving Rowan into his own room and his own bed, embracing audiobooks, and dextrously balancing hardbacks on the handle of the pram as I bumped him up and down the cycle path. Slim vols of poetry were more amenable to this treatment.
